Must-Eat in Incheon

There are foods you must try when you come to Incheon. You can taste a variety of foods, like Jeotguk Galbi made with salted shrimp, a special product of Ganghwa Island, Sagot Naengmyeon seasoned with fish Sauce on Hwanghae-style cold noodles in Baekryokdo Island, and Jjolmyeon, which originated in Incheon.
Ganghwa Jeotguk Galbi
Ganghwa Jeotguk Galbi is made of stewed pork ribs and salted shrimp. The origins of Jeotguk Galbi are said to have begun with Gojong of Goryeo collecting delicacies from Ganghwa for his dining table. Another reason why Jeotguk Galbi is famous in Ganghwa Island is Jeotguk (salted shrimp). Because Ganghwa is where freshwater from the Han and Imjin rivers meets the seawater from the Yellow Sea, the salted shrimp caught here is less salty and more nutritious than in other regions. 'Sin Arirang', the oldest Jeotguk Galbi restaurant in Ganghwa-do, is a place where many people visit not only because it appears on various TV broadcasts, but to get a taste of the Jeotguk Galbi.

Sagot Naengmyeon
Sagotnaengmyeon is one of the foods you should try when visiting Baengnyeongdo Island, as it is the North Korea Hwanghae-style naengmyeon. On June 25th, many Hwanghae-do people evacuated to Baengnyeong-do brought along their naengmyeon recipe. They sold the naengmyeon with a new recipe, and it has been known as Baengnyeongdo-style naengmyeon. Unlike Pyongyang naengmyeon, which uses meat broth, Sagot Naengmyeon contains beef bone broth made with various ingredients, so you can enjoy the rich flavor of noodles. It differs from other naengmyeon in that it is seasoned with canary fish sauce, a special product of Baengnyeongdo, rather than the usual vinegar and mustard, giving it a richer flavor. Baengnyeongdo Sagot Naengmyeon opened in 1993 and is the oldest restaurant on Baengnyeongdo Island. This restaurant is popular with many tourists. In addition to Sagot cold noodles, it is a place also has Bindaeteok and Suyuk. Please come to Baengnyeongdo Island, downtown Incheon if you want to have a great Sagot Naengmyeon dinner.

Jjolmyeon
Jjolmyeon is one of the most popular noodle dishes eaten by mixing hot and chewy noodles with red pepper paste and vegetables. It is as famous as Tteokbokki and Jjajangmyeon. It dates back to the early 1970s, while trying to extract naengmyeon at the noodle factory ‘KwangshinJemyeon', a thick noodle was made by inserting the wrong injection machine. To dispose of it, it was taken to the nearby snack restaurant 'Mannadang' and seasoned with red pepper paste to develop a new menu. The Sinpo Woori Mandoo Restaurant, a restaurant in Sinpo Market, then popularized jjolmyeon and distributed it nationwide. This place is ideal to enjoy the authentic flavors of this specialty.
