Shall we go see the lighthouse? Romantic lighthouse date

It is somewhat romantic for a lighthouse standing tall on the beach to light up. If you walk leisurely, considering the sound of the waves as background music and the lighthouse as a milestone, it seems that you will continue to talk endlessly. Here are famous lighthouses in Incheon where you can enjoy lighthouse dates.

Yeonorang Lighthouse (Incheon Port Seawall Lighthouse)

Yeonorang Lighthouse is a red lighthouse located at the end of the seawall of Yeonan Pier. The first light was lit in 1998, and it looks like the original form of a lighthouse with a red color and a narrow waist. The official name is Incheon Port Seawall Lighthouse, but it is better known by the nickname "Yeonorang Lighthouse”. The name of the lighthouse comes from the Story of Yeonorang Seonyeo in Samguk yusa(Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms). One day, husband Yeonorang, who was picking seaweed on the beach, was suddenly loaded on a rock and went to Japan. Seonyeo climbed the rock and missed her husband, and God, who was moved by this, took her to Japan, and the couple met again. It is a story suitable for a port where someone goes and someone leaves behind, and a lighthouse that watches them silently. From the 14-meter-high lighthouse, the sea embracing Incheondaegyo Bridge and Palmido Island spreads out in a panoramic view, which cools your mind.

Incheon Palmido Lighthouse

It is the first modern lighthouse in Korea. Since the first light was turned on in 1903, it has served as a guide for ships traveling to and from Incheon Port for the past 100 years. It was after the opening of Incheon Port in 1883 that the lighthouse was highlighted as necessary. As foreign cultures were pushed into Korea, the number of ships operating increased, and accordingly, a lighthouse was built on Palmido Island, the path of Incheon Port, which is Palmido Lighthouse. During the Incheon Landing Operation in September 1950, the lighthouse was designated as a Historic Site in recognition of its contribution to leading the allied fleet into Incheon and reversing the situation of the Korean War. Next to the 7.9m-high "Original" Palmido Lighthouse, there stands a 26m-high lighthouse newly built in 2003. The new Palmido Lighthouse The new Palmido Lighthouse not only fulfills its original mission of guiding the waterway, but also has a diorama video hall that informs the history of the lighthouse and a sky garden observatory overlooking the West Sea, so it has become a popular tourist spot in Palmido Island.

Lighthouse Park in Yeonpyeongdo Island

Centering on the Yeonpyeongdo Lighthouse, which was lit again for the first time in 45 years, there are monuments, playgrounds, and sports facilities in the lighthouse park on the hill at the southwestern end of Yeonpyeongdo Island. The 9.1m high white lighthouse, installed in March 1960, served as a guide to the waterway of fishing boats that catch yellow croakers on the Yeonpyeong Sea. As the Yellow croakers History Museum near Lighthouse Park suggests, Yeonpyeongdo Island is a prosperous island with seasonal yellow croakers market (fish market held on the sea when a lot of fish is caught). The lighthouse, which served as a guide for fishing boats for more than a decade, turned off in July 1974. This was due to concerns that lighthouse lights could be used to infiltrate the sea by North Korean spies. When the lighthouse was closed in 1987, the area was created as a lighthouse park, allowing visitors to remember the past days of the lighthouse. The lighthouse turned on again in May 2019 when inter-Korean relations eased. Today, lighthouses turn on lights every 15 seconds from sunset to sunrise toward the south of Yeonpyeong Sea, helping fishing boats sail at night.
