Riding and enjoying public transportation, the real charm of Incheon

※ The information above may have changed since the initial registration date. Be sure to check before you travel.
We recommend doing the Incheon Walking Tour—but by using the subway! Incheon has good access to Seoul and other metropolitan areas, since Seoul’s Subway Lines 1 and 7, and the Airport Railroad run through it. And the magnetic levitation (Maglev) train connected to the airport is free to board. From the streets where many young people roam, to the colorful shopping centers and parks where you can enjoy a leisure stroll, Incheon’s charm is truly endless.
Recommended Travel Sites Incheon’s public transport—cheap and convenient
If you want to visit the colorful streets of downtown Incheon, we recommend checking out the Bupyeong Culture Street near Incheon Line 1’s Bupyeong Station, and the Guwol-dong Rodeo Street near Art Center Station. As the busiest places in Incheon, these areas are crowded with department stores and shopping malls, so you can join the bustle of eating, shopping, and watching weekend street performances. If you ride Incheon’s Line 1 to Central Park Station, you can see the Songdo Central Park, a miniature sea park made with real seawater. And if you hang around until nightfall, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the area skyscrapers lighting up the sky. If you want to feel the charm of Incheon as a coastal city, you can take the Suin Line to Soraepogu Station.

There you will find Sorae Port, which is home to a large fish market. Various types of seafood are sold here according to the season, and you can also have a chance to savor the taste of fried shrimp and fried squid, both of which are delicacies in Korean cuisine.

The Maglev train of Incheon Airport’s Terminal 1 Station operates unmanned for 6 stations up until Yongyu Station using the country’s first magnetic field to suspend themselves above the track. You’ll be able to see Masian Beach and Muui Island from the train’s windows, and can also travel to the island via train as well.

Activities Take a moment to travel slowly
We now introduce you to a park where you take a break in nature during Korea’s early spring, or any of its other three distinct seasons. Bupyeong Park is a popular place for locals and tourist alike because of its well-established walking paths and rest areas. Jungang Park stretches from Incheon Terminal Station to Dongam Station, dotted with artistic fountains and plazas along the way. It also has a pedestrian overpass, allowing people to walk in the park without needing to cross any traffic lights. The Incheon Culture and Arts Center has consistently held high-quality performances and exhibitions for Incheon’s citizens since its opening in 1994. They also hold free programs from time to time, so it’s always good to check the schedule in advance and pay the center a visit.

The Sorae History Museum is in charge of local curations for Sorae Port, such as the Suin Line narrow-gauge railroad that used to run between Incheon and Suwon, and the Sorae Port salt farm. In the plaza in front of the exhibition hall, a steam locomotive that actually used to transverse the Suin Line is also on display. Neulsolgil Park has a sheep farm where you can meet and mingle with a flock of 20-30 sheep. And the Cypress Forest Trail has no steps or raised areas, making it easy for children to navigate. Sorae Ecology Park is a large-scale park built on the site of a former salt farm. The park is so large that it’s difficult to see all of it—including the ecological exhibition hall, bird ecology observation deck, mudflat experience center, windmill, and salt warehouse—in one day. Finally, the Nest Hotel Walking Trail makes you feel as though you’re walking on top of the ocean. Here you can wake up early and walk through the calm pine forest and relaxing fine sand, which is sure to make for an excellent start to your day.

Food Navigate to eateries of Incheon with the subway as your guide
Located close to Bupyeong Station, Pyeongridangil Street attracts many young people due to its many cafes, restaurants and wine bars, many of which are also run by young vendors. While these newly-established shops stand out in their own regard, they also blend in well and compliment the area’s existing more traditional stores. Rodeo Street near the Arts Center Station is also a youthful space, with its large shopping mall and restaurants, as well as the Incheon Culture and Arts Center. With many eateries and cute cafes to choose from, you’ll be able to taste the most popular foods among Koreans on this street. And just down the way from Central Park Station is the Hanok Village, where, as its name suggests, traditional-style Korean houses are clustered. The restaurants and cafes in this area are all built in hanoks, and you’ll be able to indulge in traditional Korean dishes like galbi and bulgogi.

Sorae Port is home to Soraepogu Fish Market, the largest and most famous traditional fish market in Korea’s metropolitan area. You’ll find many hoe (Korean-style sashimi) and deep-fried seafood restaurants around here, so be sure to go with an empty stomach. If you take the Maglev Railway and get off at the last stop, Yongyu Station, you can find a restaurant called Hwanghae Kalguksu. Seafood kalguksu is a popular dish in Korea, and this restaurant is famous for their clam kalguksu. And while you’re in the Yongyu Station area, you can stop by the Airport City Cooperative Town, where most of its dishes are seafood-based. In addition to hoe, various other seafood dishes, such as agu-jjim (steamed monkfish), haemul-jjim (steamed seafood), and maeuntang (spicy fish stew) are also available to order.

Shopping & Nightlife Enjoy your favorite drink after a shopping trip
The Bupyeong Underground Shopping Center holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest underground shopping mall, with more than 1,400 stores and over 30 exits. But don’t fret—there are plenty of signage for foreign visitors in English and Chinese, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. Moraenae Market is a classic traditional market in Incheon that has been around since the 1980s. Despite being a traditional market, it is equipped with modern facilities, so you will feel little difference from you normal shopping experience. You’ll be able to buy a variety of items here, ranging from fruit and cooking ingredients, to furniture and clothing. At Sorae Port, you will find the Pocha Street, where various street cart vendors line the road. These street carts, called pojangmacha, are set up as food and drink stalls, so you can have a taste of the Korean drinking culture at an affordable price. Triple Street, located in Songdo, is the largest shopping mall in the area. There, on top of shopping, you can take some time to explore the variety of restaurants, cafes and bars as well.
