It is the second church established in Korea (1898) after the establishment of the Sorae Church in Hwanghae province. Baengnyeongdo Island is an important historic place of Korean Catholicism. The body of Father Taegon Kim, the Korea’s first Catholic priest, is laid in state in Baengnyeong Catholic Church.
